Website performance affects usability, and it can contribute to search experience. Core Web Vitals help teams measure loading, responsiveness and visual stability using real-user data where available.

Know the three key measurements

Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) measures loading performance, Interaction to Next Paint (INP) measures responsiveness, and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) measures visual stability. Check current thresholds in Google's official documentation before setting targets.

Improve loading performance

Optimize the main hero image, serve appropriately sized modern image formats, reduce render-blocking resources and use caching carefully. Avoid loading large assets before they are needed.

Make interactions responsive

Reduce long-running JavaScript tasks, defer nonessential scripts and investigate third-party widgets. Test forms, menus and filters on lower-powered mobile devices.

Prevent unexpected layout shifts

Reserve space for images, embeds and ads. Avoid injecting content above existing content after a user begins reading.

Measure real users and lab tests

Use field data to understand real visitor experience and lab tools to diagnose likely causes. A single Lighthouse score is useful for debugging but does not represent every visitor.

Improve iteratively

Prioritize templates and pages with meaningful traffic or conversion impact. Change one major cause at a time and verify the effect after deployment.
